Metadata Parser (MDP) Introduction
The Metadata Parser (MDP) is an advanced network capture file (i.e., PCAP) processor for recorded macro data sets. This optional software license is compatible with most Daqscribe Ethernet packet recorder products, including the DDR7000 HYPERION and the XDR5100 TITAN – models that can be ordered with storage capacities of up to 360 petabytes.
MDP is particularly beneficial when installed on long-term storage data products, such as an NPS9000 DISCOVERY STATION cluster, which can yield a total capacity of tens of terabytes.
Purpose of a Metadata Parser (MDP)
MDP is designed to process large and multiple sets of PCAP files from one or more network recording sessions. Its primary function is to search through each PCAP file header for attributes and values to create a PCAP context table and file map. This information is organized into a readable text file.
Benefits of a Metadata Parser (MDP)
MDP enhances the overall network recording, storage, and data analysis experience:
- Efficiently sort through large recording volumes.
- Navigate recording sessions with ease.
- Retrieve relevant data quickly.
- Pairs with and compliments Daqscribe’s nDiscovery recording visualization and file management software tool.
Installation
- Ensure compatibility of the Daqscribe recorder model(s) with the current MDP software license.
- For NPS9000 storage clusters, acquire one MDP software license per node.
- Follow the installation prompts provided with the MDP software package to complete the installation on your qualified Daqscribe product.
Conclusion
The Metadata Parser (MDP) software module significantly improves data discovery and management efficiency, making it invaluable for users handling extensive network recording volumes.
