Daqscribe — The Ethernet Recorder Company

pFilter™

Select the Right Traffic. Organize It at the Source.

FPGA-based intelligent packet filtering and logical stream channelization, with optional packet slicing before storage.

pFilter — packet filtering and channelization
Mixed trafficpFilterLogical streams

Excluded (optional)

Mixed Ethernet traffic enters pFilter. Configured rules direct selected packets into logical streams for recording. In this example, optional packet exclusion removes other traffic before storage. Packets are gray before classification and colored by their assigned stream afterward. Four streams are illustrative, not a channel limit. Channelization can also operate without packet exclusion.

  • FPGA-Based Smart Capture

pFilter™ selects and shapes high-speed Ethernet traffic in the Smart Capture path.

  • Recording-Ready Data

By applying optional packet exclusion and organizing traffic into dedicated logical streams, it helps create focused, recording-ready data from the point of acquisition.

  • Protocol-Aware Packet Slicing

When full payloads are unnecessary, pFilter can reduce the bytes sent to recording. Fixed and protocol-aware slicing can retain relevant headers and selected data while discarding excess packet content.

Intelligent Packet Filtering & Channelization

From composite traffic to focused recording streams.

One physical Ethernet link can carry multiple sensor or application channels. pFilter evaluates incoming packets against configured rules and directs matching traffic to designated Stream IDs, allowing nRec™ to record dedicated channels without first storing a mixed composite stream. Channelization can organize retained traffic even when packet exclusion is not required.

Flexible Packet Filtering

Select traffic with precision.

pFilter can match packets using physical and transport ports, IP addresses and subnets, Layer 2–4 protocols, supported tunnel/encapsulation fields, packet length, error conditions, and defined packet data. Multiple tests can be combined using AND / OR logic.

Advanced data matching supports fixed and protocol-relative offsets, values, masks, lists, and ranges, enabling selection beyond basic IP and port filters.

Protocol-Aware Packet Slicing

Preserve what matters. Remove what does not.

When full payloads are unnecessary, pFilter can reduce the bytes sent to recording. Fixed and protocol-aware slicing can retain relevant headers and selected data while discarding excess packet content.

FPGA-Based Smart Capture

Shape data before the host records it.

Packet selection and stream preparation occur within the FPGA Smart Capture path, ahead of nRec and disk storage. Supported functions include stream assignment, port merging, and traffic distribution alongside filtering and slicing.

This approach reduces unnecessary recording traffic and host-side post-capture filtering while giving the recorder organized streams at acquisition time.
